This place recently went through a re-organization, so the menu is now much smaller, and centers around northern Chinese noodle dishes. No fried rice, no beef broccoli, and certainly no lo mein. That being said, I quite like what they have on offer, and it's the sort of place you would hope to succeed. The service was very friendly, if a bit over-zealous. It's evident that the restaurant is a small business, so not much of the "professionalism" that one might expect from experienced restaurateur, but I don't see that as a negative. The food has not been water-downed to American palate, thankfully. The hand-pulled noodles are definitely the best part of the menu, and resembles flavor profiles that you might find in the homes of Chinese families, which is to say, spicy but not ridiculously so. The smoked fish and chicken were also quite nice, though requires you to eat around the bones, so just beware of that. Overall, would recommend.

Really great service and the most authentic Chinese cuisine I've ever tasted here in the US. We tried the cold noodles, Chinese ham burgers, Malan, cold dish chicken, which all tasted great. The only thing I rate it 4 stars was because they did not have the AC on. It seems that they just installed the AC very recently. I'll absolutely go there very often so hopefully next time we may have a more cozy environment

This restaurant has changed to a Xian Style menu with dishes like Lamb Handpulled noodles and Xian style Rougamo (pork buns). Service: The lady/waiter was very attentive and nice, and told us they also have a special "xiangchun" /egg sauteed dish that is northern regional and I was surprised to find that dish here. Atmosphere: Very cozy little restaurant and it was not crowded on a Friday afternoon. Food: The lamb noodle soup was very authentic, the broth was milky white, fragrant, and clearly took many hours to make. The Handpulled noodles was chewy and had a nice texture. Overall: Definitely a new favorite spot for Xian style food in Boston.

I go to Northeastern University and was trying to find a good, authentic Chinese restaurant close to campus. The best thing we have is a food truck that shows up twice a week, otherwise everything else is too Americanized. Luckily I might have found my spot. Apparently this place has been closed for the last year for circumstances I am unaware of, but they reopened two weeks ago. The staff was extremely friendly and we had a nice chat about the restaurant and the food. They've apparently changed the menu, which now consists of mostly noodle dishes and dumplings. My friend ordered Dan Dan noodles and I had the Braised beef noodle soup, both of which were large portions and tasted amazing. The dishes were actually spicy which was usually absent from other restaurants, so we really enjoyed that. In all it was a great experience. Because they just opened again, they were not busy at all. I really hope that changes soon because they really are a great restaurant. I noticed when our server was talking to us she sounded a bit worried about not getting much business and asked us to please comeback and bring friends. I'll definitely be doing that!

Really good Chinese food. Probably the best xinjiang chicken, beef tendon I had in Boston. The environment is a little shabby and dingy. It is half downstairs and the bathroom size is definitely too small for many. The staff and waiters are nice though. On the pricy side, but if you want to try some real Chinese food, definitely worthy of a shot.

I've been searching for great Szechuan food in Boston since I've moved here. It's been a fruitless attempt until Chef Chang's. Craving succulent lo mein on a Sunday, I perused Boston Magazine's Best of Boston section, and was surprised to find that Chef Chang's was the top choice. I had never heard of it, but was very happy to see that it resides in my neighborhood. I ordered the lo mein, spring rolls, and sesame chicken. This turned out to be far more food than I imagined, and I couldn't even finish half of it - but I wish that I could have! It's so tassssstttyyyyyyy! The sesame chicken was crispy and mouth-watering, the lo mein was flavorful, and the spring rolls were crunchy and delightful. I'm so happy to have found Chef Chang's - and to know that my Szechuan cravings will forever more be satiated in Boston.

I had the best beef noodle soup I've had in Boston (possibly anywhere) here. The soup was flavorful and not too greasy. The meat was tender. The bok choy was still crisp and not overcooked. YES. While I usually prefer to go to Chinatown to get my Chinese food fix, I will come here just for this dish. Very English friendly. It was a little strange to be eating Chinese food in a restaurant with white tablecloths, haha. Prices are definitely a little higher than Chinatown but hey, it's Back Bay and you're paying for the location. And it's a nice change to eat Chinese food at a fancy-looking place.
